OUR MISSION

  • Mission and Goals
Mission:
The Agricultural and Extension Education Program provides quality instruction designed to aid students and staff in increasing their knowledge base and developing their intellectual faculties to prepare them for productive careers in agriculture and/or related disciplines. The program's primary mission is the preparation of present and prospective agricultural educators for proficiency in their chosen fields of responsibility with special emphasis on agricultural education and agricultural extension.

The educational program includes sufficient technical information and specialization for initial employment. Also, the program provides an education within a broad college and university setting which develops a student's understanding of society and enhances the ability to learn after formal university education is completed.  Students are challenged to develop effective thinking and communication skills, confidence, leadership, problem solving ability, and a desire for life long learning.

Goals:
Goal 1:
To provide and improve the quality of pre- and post-employment educational opportunities and training for educators in agricultural education and the Agricultural Extension System by:  a) recruiting prospective students to insure a supply of capable, well qualified beginning agricultural educators, b) providing adequate professional experiences to quality prospective educators to meet a variety of job demands, c) advising students in career choices, selection of courses and schedules, and other relevant areas, and d) assisting qualified persons in finding appropriate and suitable employment upon graduation.

Goal 2:  To provide and improve the quality of in-service education and other training opportunities designed to update agricultural education instructors, agricultural Extension agents and other agricultural leaders.

Goal 3: To enhance the youth leadership and career development skills of agricultural education students in Tennessee.

Goal 4: To expand and intensify recruitment activities in order to increase the number, quality and diversity of students enrolled in the department.
