Financial Aid
As a state sponsored university, tuition and fees are much lower at UT Knoxville than at many other colleges and universities, and living expenses in Knoxville are moderate. Students can help defray the cost of their education by receiving scholarships, grants and work-study jobs.
Numerous scholarships and other types of financial aid are available for agriculture students, and a large percentage of the students in agricultural and extension education receive some type of aid. Students in this program are eligible for general University scholarships, ranging from $100 to $6,000 per year, and for College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources scholarships, ranging from $600 to $3,000 per year. In addition, special scholarships and intern opportunities are available specifically for agricultural and extension education students. For more information, go to the UTK Financial Aid Home Page.
Program Scholarships
The Agricultural and Extension Education Program offers the following scholarships for its majors:
J. Bryant Kirkland Scholarships
The J. Bryant Kirkland scholarships, like those awarded by the Philip Morris Company, will only be given to students interested in becoming an agricultural education teacher. Funds available depend upon the amount of accrued interest that is earned each year. Dr. Kirkland was a former Professor of Agricultural Education at The University of Tennessee. He is now deceased, but left a scholarship for those preparing to be agricultural education teachers.
Mike Milburn Scholarships
The Mike Milburn scholarship is given by the Tennessee Valley Fair and is only available to an East Tennessee high school student who has participated in a regional fair. An application form will be sent to qualifying students who request an application.
Funded Internship
The Philip Morris Extension Internship provides the student an opportunity to study, observe and participate in a County Extension program under the direction supervision of experienced County Extension Agents. Click here for more information and application forms.
